Coral Gables Dental Extractions

Coral Gables Dental ExtractionsA dental extraction is the removal of a tooth from your mouth. Extractions are performed for multiple reasons, some of which include:

  • Non-restorable tooth decay
  • Untreatable or advanced periodontal disease
  • Problematic wisdom teeth
  • Extraction of some permanent teeth to make space for orthodontic treatment
  • Fractured teeth
  • Extra teeth
  • Malformed teeth
  • Extractions are categorized as “surgical”or “non-surgical.”

Non-Surgical Extractions

These are performed on teeth that are visible in the mouth, usually under local anesthesia and require slow, steady and controlled force using instruments that elevate and/or grasp the visible portion of the tooth.

Surgical Extractions

These involve the removal of teeth that cannot be easily accessed, either because they have fractured under the gum line or because they have not erupted fully into the mouth. As determined by the specific nature of the case to be treated, Dr. Dargham may elect to refer this type of extraction to a Smile Panel oral surgeon.

Following extraction of a tooth, a blood clot formation within the socket begins the healing process. Although common, bleeding is noted most in the first hour of healing and decreases quickly with time. The open wound gradually fills in with soft gum tissue over a period of one to two months. Final closure of the socket with bone tissue can take six months or more.

Please contact Dr. Dargham and her team to schedule your initial consultation. For your convenience, Dr. Dargham welcomes patients in one of two locations (Coconut Grove Dental Clinic and Biscayne Blvd. Dental Clinic), both located in the heart of Miami Dade County.
